Digging Deeper

The first topic I decided to dig deeper into was Oud instrument. This is to be considered the king of all instruments. It's also considered to be the oldest too. Its name means "a thin strip of wood" in arabic. The back was made of several strips of bent wood that are glued together to form a bowl. The back sorta looks like a pear. Usually the open side is known as the rosette. The two distinctive features of this instrument is it's pear shaped body and its fretless neck. It consists of about 11 strings, and about 3 sound holes. The sound Is produced by its hollow body vibrating as the strings are being plucked. One of a well known Oud player is George Mgrdichian. He was known to many as the Oud master. He was credited as the first player bringing the Oud into classical music venues, such as Carnegie Hall.

I saw the YouTube video inserted about the Quran completion. I was curious about that so I decided to go find more information about that. This competition started back in 1982. This takes place once a year during the lunar month of the Rajab. Originally, the competition consisted of two subjects, memorization of the entire Quran and Tahqiq recitation of the Quran. Now it consists of three changing subjects. People from various countries attend the week long international event. The Quran competition was created to encourage and help muslims memorize the Quran in a short period of time. It was also made to appreciate and love the Holy Quran in the hearts and minds. This event is open to any and all ages.

Last but not least I want to learn more about Mona Haydar. When we listened to one of her songs in class it caught my attention. I didn't expect for muslims to have music like that. Anyways, Mona is a rapper, poet, activist, meditator, and a God enthusiast. On top of performing at gig and making music she loves to spend some of her free time writing poetry. Mona transitioned from writing poetry at an early age to turning them into raps. One of her most famous singles "hijab" had a great debut racking in millions of views. She has been featured in billboards, nylon, vogue, BuzzFeed and many other big sites/magazines.
