Image
For my blog I decided to talk about the Aboriginal People Of Australia. Watching that National Geographic video about them intrigued me and I wanted to learn more. So thats what I did. Honestly before watching that National Geographic video I've never really heard about aboriginal people until now. Im glad this Australia unit could make me aware of this. Aboriginal people are one of the two distinct groups of Indigenous peoples of Australia. They are also known as the Nations first group of people. They formed one of the oldest societies on earth.    It's said that they originally come from Asia and have been in Australia for a bout 60,000 years.  T hey are not one group, but rather hundreds of groups that have their own distinct set of languages, histories and cultural traditions.  This is a very family orientated group of people. They would hold large gatherings often.  Aboriginal cultures were strong and well developed, Aboriginal communities were self-determining, and Abo

Digging Deeper

Image
The first topic I decided to dig deeper into was Oud instrument. This is to be considered the king of all instruments. It's also considered to be the oldest too. Its name means "a thin strip of wood" in arabic. The back was made of several strips of bent wood that are glued together to form a bowl. The back sorta looks like a pear. Usually the open side is known as the rosette. The two distinctive features of this instrument is it's pear shaped body and its fretless neck. It consists of about 11 strings, and about 3 sound holes. The sound Is produced by its hollow body vibrating as the strings are being plucked. One of a well known Oud player is George Mgrdichian. He was known to many as the Oud master. He was credited as the first player bringing the Oud into classical music venues, such as Carnegie Hall.  I saw the YouTube video inserted about the Quran completion. I was curious about that so I decided to go find more information about that. This competition started

For today's blog i'm going to be giving you guys information about African-American Spirituals. I choose this genre because I've heard about in during one of my history classes before, but we didn't really dig deeper into it. With that being said i'm interested to learn more. African-American Spirituals are songs created by Africans who were captured and brought and sold into slavery. They are also known as Negro spirituals. Although it's impossible to determine when the first spirituals were created, most people believe near the end of the eighteenth century.Their languages, family, and culture were stripped from them, but they could not take away their music. The original composers of these songs are unknown. Their songs became known a spirituals. This music was inspired by African music. They sort of mimicked blues and gospel music.  In their songs, the slaves named issues and fears they could not express publicly .   They were also used to communicate with

Stepping Into South Africa Music

As I watched the video of Toumani Diabate play the Kora instrument I wanted to learn more about it because it looked interesting. It has a unique sound to it. The Kora is a stringed instrument mainly used in West Africa. Its the king of instruments in the Griot culture. It typically 21 strings. It's played by plucking the strings with your fingers. There are small pieces of shells that create a rattle like sound when the strings are plucked. Its has features of the harp and the lute. The sound of this instrument resembles the sound of a harp. Its built from a small calabash and covered with cow skin. Learning to play this instrument requires extreme discipline. As you can see in the video I inserted you can hear and see how it's used.  https://www.kora-music.ml/the-kora-instrument/ The next thing I wanna dig into is the Ghana postal workers. The video on Canvas that I heard was amazing. I can't believe that those are people making those sounds with no instruments. I was sh
